The equestrian community needs change. It needs robust safeguarding, higher industry standards, and better support for equestrians who have been harmed.
We believe creating a safer equestrian community begins with listening to and supporting victim-survivors. EQUISS provides a safe space for equestrians to speak up and seek support through our free, confidential and independent advocacy. Our specialist team includes Independent Sexual Violence Advocates (ISVAs), Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs) and trauma-informed advocates.
But responding to harm is not enough. We must work to prevent it.
We work to make safeguarding core to everyday equestrian life – in every yard, riding school, workplace, competition venue, and equestrian centre. We work to raise industry standards through education, training and practical guidance. And we work towards lasting change by using research and frontline insight to identify where systems are failing, then campaigning for stronger protections and greater accountability.
EQUISS is committed to delivering change for all equestrians, but we can't do it alone. Our community will be stronger when victim-survivors feel safe to speak up, when organisations are accountable and open to change, and when we all refuse to accept harmful behaviour.
Lasting change is possible. Our mission is to make it happen.
Our Independence
Our independence underpins everything we do as a safeguarding organisation, allowing us to put the people we support first, act without compromise, and challenge the practices and systems that need to change.
Our Board and Advisory Panel help to keep us accountable and transparent, ensuring that our principle of independence is at the heart of every decision we make.

What we believe
We believe everyone has the right to enjoy equestrian life free from harm, abuse and misconduct.
Harmful behaviour is not simply part of equestrian life. The culture of our community is shaped by what we accept, what we challenge and what we're prepared to stand up for. We believe every one of us has the power to make a difference in ending abuse and misconduct in the equestrian community.
Our vision
A renewed equestrian world where power is accountable, safeguarding is prioritised and non-negotiable, and every athlete, worker and child is safe from abuse and misconduct.
