A new benchmark for safeguarding in the equestrian sector
EQUISS is developing an independent accreditation framework that will recognise equestrian organisations, yards and events that demonstrate strong safeguarding, welfare and responsible practice.
Across the equestrian sector, environments vary widely in how risks are managed, how concerns are handled and how responsibilities are defined. The EQUISS accreditation aims to provide a clear and trusted benchmark for organisations committed to maintaining safe, well-run and accountable equestrian environments.
Why accreditation matters
For many yards, workplaces and events, managing risk and maintaining safe environments is already part of everyday practice. EQUISS accreditation is designed to recognise those efforts and provide a clear way to demonstrate that standards are being met.
Accreditation can help organisations show riders, staff, parents and participants that their environment prioritises safety, welfare and responsible practice. It also provides a structured framework to review policies, procedures and day-to-day practices - helping organisations strengthen areas such as safeguarding, health and safety, risk management and reporting processes.
By meeting EQUISS standards, organisations can demonstrate that they are committed not only to running successful equestrian environments, but to doing so in a way that protects the wellbeing of everyone involved.
